British Steel is recruiting an extra 21 apprentices this year – meaning 59 new trainees will join the business in September

The UK’s only primary steelmaker is taking on its first apprentices for 3 years and is recruiting into 30 engineering, 6 technical, and 7 functional roles in Scunthorpe.

A further 14 apprentices are being recruited for our Teesside and Skinningrove operations along with 2 technical apprenticeships for our R&D facility in Sheffield.

HR Director Nick Ashton said: “The calibre of applications we received for our apprenticeship positions was outstanding, and this, coupled with the ever increasing need to build an internal talent pool within our craft / technical and functional teams, is why we have decided to offer more roles.

“Our new intake will be our next generation of engineers, technical, and functional experts – supporting our journey to becoming a sustainable and profitable business at the heart of the UK economy.”

Applications for the bulk of the positions closed last month, with assessment centres underway and offers being made.

However, we are inviting applications for the technical roles in Sheffield and the 7 functional positions in Scunthorpe. The functional positions are in Procurement (2), Commercial, HR, IT, Finance, and Health, Safety and Environment.

Nick said: “The successful candidates will get first-class training, the opportunity to build exciting and challenging careers, and the chance to play an important role in our transformation.

“Seize the chance and apply now.”
